Details

The Rolex Cosmograph Daytona reference 126503 is the modern two-tone Daytona, combining Oystersteel with 18k yellow gold in what Rolex calls Yellow Rolesor. Introduced as part of the updated Daytona generation in 2023, the 126503 keeps the familiar 40mm case and motorsport-inspired layout that have defined the model for decades, but Rolex subtly cleaned up the proportions and details throughout the watch. The yellow gold bezel retains the engraved tachymeter scale, while the Oyster bracelet mixes steel outer links with polished yellow gold center links. It is definitely not the quiet Daytona, but nobody has ever bought a two-tone, diamond-dial Daytona because they were trying to disappear.

This particular configuration gets Rolex's bright black and golden dial set with diamond hour markers in 18k gold settings. The diamonds add some flash, but the black dial and contrasting gold chronograph registers keep it looking unmistakably like a Daytona rather than turning it into a full jewelry piece. Underneath everything is Rolex's caliber 4131, the current-generation automatic chronograph movement with a Chronergy escapement, blue Parachrom hairspring, Paraflex shock absorbers, and approximately 72 hours of power reserve. You still get the proper Daytona layout with running seconds at six, a 30-minute counter at three, and a 12-hour counter at nine. It is plenty of technical watch underneath a whole lot of gold and diamonds.

What makes the 126503 interesting is that it takes one of Rolex's most serious tool-watch designs and pushes it pretty firmly into luxury territory without losing what made the Daytona good in the first place. The 40mm case remains extremely wearable, the screw-down pushers and Triplock crown help provide 100 meters of water resistance, and the Oysterlock clasp with Easylink extension makes it an easy watch to actually live with. The diamond dial is going to be a matter of taste, as it should be, but on a two-tone Daytona it somehow makes sense. This was never going to be the restrained version. If you're already committing to yellow gold down the middle of the bracelet and around the bezel, you might as well have a little fun with the dial too.

Brand History

Rolex was founded in 1905 by Hans Wilsdorf and Alfred Davis in London, before moving to Geneva in 1919 to be closer to the heart of Swiss watchmaking. From the start, Wilsdorf envisioned a wristwatch that was not only elegant, but also precise and reliable—an ambitious goal at a time when pocket watches dominated. Rolex went on to pioneer key innovations in horology, including the first officially certified chronometer wristwatch, the Oyster case (the world’s first waterproof wristwatch), and the Perpetual rotor—the self-winding mechanism that became the standard for modern automatic watches. These technical breakthroughs laid the foundation for Rolex’s enduring reputation for rugged luxury and mechanical excellence.

Today, Rolex is arguably the most recognized name in watches, with models like the Submariner, Daytona, Datejust, and GMT-Master becoming cultural icons in their own right. Whether tied to deep-sea exploration, motorsport, aviation, or mountain summits, each model reflects the brand’s commitment to performance and precision under extreme conditions. The brand’s status is bolstered by its unmatched consistency in design, rigorous in-house testing, and long-standing associations with exploration, sport, and achievement. For collectors and enthusiasts, Rolex represents more than a timepiece—it’s a benchmark of mechanical reliability, timeless design, and global prestige.
